Which Cars Use AdBlue®?
AdBlue® is a fluid specifically designed for diesel vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. This system significantly reduces harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) found in diesel exhaust gases, converting them into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.
Originally used primarily in heavy-duty trucks and buses, AdBlue® is now found in most new diesel cars sold across Europe.
Why Do Cars Use AdBlue®?
As environmental regulations for diesel vehicles have become stricter, manufacturers have introduced technologies to cut emissions from fuel combustion. The SCR system, combined with AdBlue®, is among the most effective methods for reducing NOx emissions—substances that are extremely harmful to both human health and the environment.
How Does SCR Technology Work?
Injection – AdBlue® is injected into the exhaust stream after the diesel engine.
Conversion – At high temperatures, the urea in AdBlue® breaks down into ammonia.
Reduction – The ammonia reacts with nitrogen oxides inside the SCR catalyst, converting them into nitrogen and water vapor.
